Grading in AutoCAD® Civil 3D

Prerequisites: Some familiarity is required with Civil 3D. Knowledge of Surfaces, Breaklines, Prospector Tab, Settings tab and some experience with Grading is preferred.

Description: Grading has been one of the most challenging items in Civil 3D. Whether it is a simple curb return or a 400 lot subdivision, and yet another challenge is making sense of how to manage your Sites and Grading Groups. If you are looking for a little extra in your grading arsenal, then this is the class for you. Designed for the intermediate to advanced Civil 3D user. In addition, please bring all of your Grading questions with you. Major topics in this class we will be the following, but not limited to:

  • Feature Lines vs. 3D Polys. The Good and the Bad.
  • Elevation Editor and its associated tools. Also, under the Modify Tab in the Ribbon, the “Edit Geometry” and “Edit Elevations” panel will be discussed. These are your primary tools for feature line edits.
  • Using Corridor and Grading objects to complement each other.
  • Creating a custom Toolbar for your Grading Functions.
  • Best Management Practices for managing your sites.
  • Earthwork Volumes.
  • Making the TIN (Triangulated Irregular Network, the back bone of any surface) work for you, and being able to read the TIN for possible errors.
  • Making street Intersection Grading easy.
  • Pond Grading.
  • Ken’s tips and tricks to Grading (don’t make it harder than it needs to be).
  • Projection Grading. Establishing grades for one Surface with another Surface.

Also included with the class is Civil 3D Template with extra grading options and styles.

Pipe Networks in AutoCAD® Civil 3D

This class will demonstrate the Pipe Layout and Drafting Tools in Autocad Civil 3D.  Civil 3D uses a Network Model, providing a powerful system for representing the interactions of pipes and structures within a system.  The Civil 3D Pipe Network will also link to an external analysis program called Storm and Sanitary Sewer Analysis (SSA).  Detailed analysis operations in the SSA product are covered in a separate training class.

This class will provide some insight into the development of prototyped pipe network settings, deployed through template drawings that make the required pipe cataloged elements available to all designers.   The class is structured for the creation and editing of pipe network data, as well as Civil 3D’s pipe annotation capabilities and the ability to create design deliverables.

GIS in AutoCAD® Civil 3D Workflow

AutoCAD Civil 3D is built on top of AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Map 3D. This class will help demonstrate how to use GIS capabilities of the Map 3D tools within Civil 3D. We can Import/Export GIS related information with relative ease within our familiar CAD environment. The advantage here is we can enhance our Civil Deliverables with GIS related data. In the past CAD Data and GIS Data have always been kept separate, why? Our experience is that Civil Engineers and Surveyors just don’t know that the tools exist. This one day class will give you a jump start to expose you to the Map 3D tools.

Training_2 Day

AutoCAD® Civil 3D Surveyors Fundamentals – Field to Finish

Taught by Professional Land Surveyors and/or Land Surveyors in training with Autodesk® Certification

Prerequisites: General understanding of surveying principles and working knowledge of AutoCAD®.

Description: This in-depth two day course is for civil engineers, surveyors and survey technicians who require training in the survey functionality of Civil 3D. The class is geared specifically for those focusing on data collection, traverses and related issues.

2 – Days, $995

AutoCAD® Map 3D – Practical Applications

Prerequisites: Working knowledge of a recent version of AutoCAD®, Microsoft® Windows® 7 or Microsoft® Windows® XP.

Description: This course focuses on what you need to effectively use AutoCAD Map 3D in your daily tasks.  Each lesson contains concepts, principles, and exercises to provide you with the background and foundation of knowledge that you need to effectively apply the features directly to your job tasks.  You work through real word exercises to reinforce your understanding provide you with practice on common tasks that other professionals are performing with AutoCAD Map 3D in the workplace every day.

Training_3 Day

AutoCAD®Civil 3D Fundamentals

Taught by Professional Land Surveyors and/or Land Surveyors in Training with Autodesk® Certification

Prerequisites: General understanding of civil engineering principles and working knowledge of AutoCAD®.

Description: AutoCAD® Civil 3D is a powerful application for civil engineering design. Although it runs in the familiar AutoCAD® environment, the program is based on a dynamic engineering model that contains all of the core geometry and integrates all of the data. When you make a change to the design, Civil 3D automatically updates the related objects, views, annotations, tables, etc. Keeping all design elements synchronized is therefore greatly simplified. This course focuses on basic tools that the majority of users will need to work with Civil 3D.

3 – Days, $1,495

AutoCAD® Level 1: Fundamentals

Prerequisites: Basic computer skills such as opening and saving files. Must be comfortable using a keyboard and a mouse with a scroll wheel. A working knowledge of basic design/drafting procedures and terminology, Windows 9x, ME, NT 4.0, 2000, or XP.

Description: This course is designed for someone with no previous CAD skills. By the end of this course, the student will be able to create a 2D drawing using the basic drawing and editing tools, organize drawing objects on layers, add text and basic dimensions, and set up the drawing to print correctly.

3 – Days, $1,495

AutoCAD® Revit Fundamentals

This in-depth course is designed to teach you the Autodesk Revit functionality as you would work with it throughout the design process. You begin by learning about the user interface and basic drawing, editing, and reviewing tools. Then you learn design development tools including how to model walls, doors, windows, floors, ceilings, stairs and more. Finally you learn the processes that take the model to the construction documentation phase.

4 – Days, $1,495
